Random Routine: Anastasia Grishina Floor Exercise Euros 2013

Whenever I'm browsing through routines on Youtube, I like to find interesting bits to hopefully feature on Random Routine. Of course, I'm not organized enough to have a notebook or something to jot down ideas and my thoughts, so I usually just bookmark the link and leave it for later. This leads to a mess in which I have to rewatch many videos to find the part that caught my eye in the first place. Then, like now, I end up with three random routine posts in a row. I promise I'll get back to other posts soon (I'm actually working on an ode to Grishina right now.) Consider this a sneak peek!

This is Anastasia Grishina's Floor Exercise routine from the 2013 European Championships All Around final. I didn't really even pick this on the merits of the routine itself, she steps out, and it seems like a few of her leaps were messed up. However, the music to dance is like my favorite type, where there are punctuated movements following the swells and beats in the music. Actually, I really love the spin that coordinates perfectly with the descending notes in the music. But argh, the five hour long pause before the last pass, in which she waves her arms and points her toes and considers it dance as she strolls into the corner ARGH.

Although, I must be honest. I wanted to feature this routine because I hoped someone would be able to explain her salute at the end. Never seen a gymnast do a little 'you're welcome' wave to the judges haha. First Mustafina not saluting at all, and now this. Russia's on a roll!

  1. I didn't think of it as a "you're welcome" wave. It's probably her way of gracefully exiting the floor, much like Sarah Finnegan in 2012.
